woven akebi hair clip

This elegant barrette style hair clip has been handwoven from the dried vines of akebi. Made in Japan, especially for us, by artisan Moe Watanabe.

During the months of September and October Moe gathers akebi vines in the Japanese mountains, where it grows in abundance. Once harvested the vines are dried before being woven or tied (musubi) into intricate shapes. After being introduced to Moe’s basket and brooch weaving we approached her to make us a hair clip, this is the result.

Each hair clip has a metal barrette style fastening on the back, allowing it to be clipped into your hair or ponytail. Each barrette clip has been woven (not glued) in place.

Each piece is unique and due to the nature of the materials, there will be variation and peeling of the vine - as is the way of nature.

Dimensions: 8.5cm x 6cm. Sizes are approximate.
