This beautiful heirloom kale is full of goodness and is particularly nutritious. You can sow direct in the garden or sow in trays and transplant about 4-6 weeks later. Plant in moist, well-drained soil (not clay or soggy). It does well with a bit of shade. Plant in spring or late summer so you avoid the hottest time of the year. It will give you greens all through winter and can often sprout up again the following year. Do plant in a different spot each year so the soil gets a break. Harvest the outer leaves and snip off flowers to delay it going to seed.
Little Sun Seeds is based on Waiheke Island, and boasts a collection of organic seeds for the home gardener. Seed is sourced from across the North and South Island and packaged into envelopes with handwritten growing instructions.
